Meet the Artist

Hi, I'm Kimmy.

SIMJA (pronounced SIM-yah) is an acronym for Spectrum Imagination Mary Jane Art, but it has also come to represent something much deeper.

The word SIMJA has been described as a deep, resilient joy. A spiritual release of the soul that embraces every part of life, including pain, healing, love, loss, and hope. It is about experiencing life fully, even through its challenges.

That definition resonated with me because I believe creativity is one of the purest forms of healing.

Painting has helped me reconnect with parts of myself that words never could. It has brought peace to places within me that felt unfinished, allowing me to break cycles, process emotions, and simply be present.

Creating is where my mind becomes quiet. It is my meditation, my mindfulness, and my sanctuary.

I am a full-time mum and wife, and a self-taught artist from New Zealand.

Life in our home is beautifully chaotic, filled with love, laughter, challenges, and constant learning. My husband and our two incredible boys have shaped who I am, not only as a mother, but as an artist. Their resilience, individuality, and way of seeing the world continue to inspire everything I create.

My creative practice is grounded in painting, forest walks, meditation, nature, and family life. Colour has always been my language, allowing me to express thoughts and emotions that are difficult to put into words.

After a long period away from my work while supporting my family through significant medical challenges, I am reintroducing myself, not with regret, but with clarity, gratitude, and gentleness.

Healing is not a destination. It is a continuum.

SIMJA is more than an art brand. It is a space where imagination, resilience, authenticity, and quiet strength come together. Every painting begins as an original acrylic artwork before becoming wearable art, home décor, or keepsakes that carry a little of that story into the world.

My hope is that my work reminds people that creativity has no limits, healing is rarely linear, and our differences are often the most beautiful parts of who we are.

Thank you for being here and supporting independent art.

Art. Without. Limits.

Our Story

SIMJA was created from a simple belief. Creativity belongs to everyone.

Art has the power to connect people across different experiences, abilities, cultures, and life journeys. It gives us a way to communicate, heal, celebrate, and express ourselves when words are not enough.

As an artist with ADHD, and as a parent to children with diverse support needs, I have experienced both the beauty and the challenges of seeing the world differently. Those experiences have shaped not only my life, but the heart of SIMJA.

I wanted to create more than an art business.

I wanted to build a space where creativity is celebrated without comparison, where individuality is embraced, and where people feel seen exactly as they are.

At SIMJA, we believe there is no single way to think, create, learn, or experience the world. Different minds bring different perspectives, and those perspectives deserve to be valued.

Our Spectrum Minds collection was born from this belief. It celebrates neurodiversity, authenticity, and the idea that our differences are not flaws to overcome, but strengths that make each of us unique.

Looking ahead, my vision is for SIMJA to continue growing into a creative community that supports artists of all backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. Whether someone is neurodivergent, living with disability, navigating mental health challenges, rediscovering creativity later in life, or simply searching for a place where they belong, I hope they find encouragement here.

Every purchase helps support an independent New Zealand artist while contributing to a bigger vision. A future where creativity is more accessible, artists are empowered, and individuality is celebrated.

Thank you for being part of our story.

Together, we are proving that art has no limits, and neither do the people who create it.

Why We Created the Spectrum Minds Runners

The Spectrum Minds Runners were created from a place of love, lived experience, and a desire to help people feel seen.

As a family, our lives have been shaped by autism, ADHD, epilepsy, mental health, and a rare chromosome duplication that affects both my husband and one of our sons.

These experiences have taught us that every journey is unique, and that understanding, acceptance, and inclusion can make an incredible difference.

We wanted to create something more than a pair of shoes.

We wanted to create wearable artwork that sparks conversations, celebrates individuality, and reminds people that every mind deserves to be valued.

Each design in the Spectrum Minds Collection is created using SIMJA's signature artistic style, with thoughtfully selected colours, patterns, and symbolic details that reflect the community or cause it represents. While the collection shares a cohesive artistic identity, every design carries its own meaning and story.

The Spectrum Minds Collection is not intended to represent every diagnosis or every lived experience. Instead, it reflects the causes and communities that have touched our family's lives personally and inspired us to create with purpose.

Whether you're wearing a design because it reflects your own journey, supports someone you love, or simply resonates with your values, we hope these runners remind you that being different is something to celebrate.

This collection will continue to grow as we listen, learn, and connect with our community, one meaningful step at a time.

Art Without Limits. Minds Without Limits.

Why SIMJA

The world doesn't need more products.

It needs more meaning.

SIMJA was never created simply to sell artwork. It was created to build connection through creativity and to celebrate the beauty of seeing the world differently.

Every piece begins as an original painting, inspired by nature, imagination, emotion, and the experiences that have shaped my life. From there, that artwork becomes something people can live with, wear, gift, or hold onto as a reminder that creativity belongs to everyone.

SIMJA is built on the belief that art should be accessible, authentic, and inclusive.

As an artist with ADHD and a parent to children with diverse support needs, I know how important it is to feel accepted rather than expected to fit into someone else's idea of "normal." That belief is woven into everything I create.

Whether you discover SIMJA through a painting, a pair of shoes, a children's book, the Spectrum Minds collection, or something yet to come, my hope is that you find something that speaks to you.

Every purchase supports an independent New Zealand artist and helps grow a vision that extends beyond art. A vision of creating opportunities for artists, celebrating neurodiversity, encouraging creativity, and building a community where people of all experiences and life journeys feel welcome.

SIMJA isn't just about creating beautiful things.

It's about creating a place where imagination is celebrated, individuality is respected, and everyone is reminded that who they are is enough.

Because art isn't about fitting in.

It's about expressing what makes us beautifully different.

Sustainability

At SIMJA, we believe thoughtful choices matter.

As a small independent New Zealand art business, we know we won't have all the answers, but we are committed to making responsible decisions as we continue to grow.

Made to Order

Many of our products are created using print-on-demand production.

This means items are only made after an order is placed, rather than being mass-produced and stored in warehouses. Producing products on demand helps reduce unnecessary overproduction and excess inventory.

Quality Over Quantity

We believe in creating products that are designed to be enjoyed for years, not seasons.

By focusing on original artwork, quality materials, and timeless designs, we hope every purchase becomes something you genuinely love and continue using.

Supporting Independent Creativity

Every purchase directly supports an independent artist and a small family-run business.

Your support allows us to continue creating original artwork, developing new collections, and investing in future creative projects that celebrate imagination, individuality, and inclusion.

Choosing Partners Carefully

We work with trusted production partners who help us bring our artwork to life while maintaining consistent product quality.

As SIMJA grows, we will continue looking for partners and materials that align with our values and improve the sustainability of our products wherever possible.

Growing Responsibly

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination.

We are committed to learning, improving, and making better choices as new materials, technologies, and production methods become available.

Thank you for supporting a business that believes creativity and conscious decision-making can grow together, one piece at a time.
